CHAPTER SEVEN

MAN’S FREE WILL

1.     T          F          In no realm is the sovereign will of God denied as it is in the matter of man’s salvation. (p. 207)

2.     The old theologians distinguished between the __________ will of God, and His __________ will. (p. 208)

3.     The __________ will of God reveals God’s __________, and so it tests our __________. (p. 208)

4.         The __________ will of God express God’s __________ determined will which cannot and will not be __________. (p. 208)

5.         T          F          God’s will is often distinguished into either His efficacious or His permissive will. (p. 208)

6.         T          F          Many confuse man’s responsibility of doing God’s will with “freewill.” (p. 209)

7.         T          F          Man’s problem never has been whether he will be saved if he believes on Christ, but that by nature he is unwilling to believe. (p. 210)

8.         T          F          God has sometimes had to initiate and complete salvation for man. (p. 211)

9.         Man’s __________ __________ is limited only by man’s nature; he is free of any outward compulsion to sin. (p. 212)

10.       T          F          Only by the grace of God is man able to freely repent and trust in Christ. (p. 212)

11.       T          F          Man is freely able in and of himself to repent and turn to God in faith. (p. 212)

12.       T          F          It is commonly held by many that no one—not even God—can override man’s will. (p. 213)

13.       The following facts reveal why man’s will is not free as he supposes:

A.         Man’s will is not free in his __________. (p. 213)

B.         Man’s will is not free as regards his __________. (p. 214)

C.         Man’s will is not free as regards __________. (p. 214)

D.         Man’s will is not free concerning the __________ __________ __________. (p. 214)

E.         Man’s will is not free concerning his __________ __________. (p. 214)

F.          Man’s will is not supreme in the acquisition of __________ __________. (p. 214)

G.         Man’s will is not free in his __________. (p. 214)

H.         Man’s will as a __________ __________ is not free. (p. 215)

I.          Man’s will is not free in the matter of __________. (p. 215)

J.          Man’s will is not even free as a __________. (p. 215)

K.         Man’s will is not free concerning __________. (p.215)

14.       2 Timothy 2:25-26 sets forth the fallacy of man’s freewill by stating the following: (p. 216)

A.         The natural man is __________ __________ at the devil’s will.

B.         The natural man is __________ of this bondage to the devil.

C.         The only hope of escape lies in God’s giving him __________.

15.       God’s will is seen the be the moving force in: (p. 217)

A.         The __________ __________.

B.         The __________ of the born again.

C.         __________.

D.         __________.

E.         __________.

F.          The __________ of the saved.

G.         __________ from this present evil world.

H.         __________ of the Scriptures.

I.          The __________ to offices.

J.          The giving of __________ __________.

16.       T          F          Man’s freewill is founded upon the idea of human self‑sufficiency and self‑reliance, which is an outright denial of the doctrine of the total depravity of man. (p. 218)

17.       Romans 3:9-12 defines man’s sinfulness as: (p. 219)

A.         Man’s nature is __________ __________, and none are excepted.

B.         There is no desire to __________ of, nor to __________ God.

C.         All men are living in __________ against God’s __________.

D.         The speech of natural man is __________ and __________.

18.       T          F          The idea of a freewill in man is based upon a denial of man’s fall in Eden. (p. 220)

19.       When Adam sinned, he did so as the __________ __________ of all his descendents, and his __________ was theirs, and so the promised __________ came upon every one of Adam’s __________. (p. 220)

20.       T          F          The foundation of the idea of freewill also lies in a strong tendency to believe in self‑salvation—that one can believe in and receive Christ at any time. (p. 222)

21.       T          F          The theory of freewill recognizes that man is wholly in bondage to sin. (p. 223)

22.       Ephesians 2:1-3 shows the true condition of the natural man to be: (p. 225)

A.         __________ __________ in trespasses and sins.

B.         Walking in __________ with the __________ and the __________.

C.         A state of __________.

D.         A walk __________ by the __________ of the flesh.

23.       T          F          A second fault of this view of man’s will is that it always fails to glorify God. (p. 225)

24.       Other faults of the belief in freewill is its tendency, to produce worse beliefs, such as:

a.         __________. (p. 225)

b.         __________. (p.226)

c.         Leads into __________, __________, __________, and __________. (p.226)

25.       T          F          We must reject this view of freewill, for the will of natural man is wholly depraved and perverted, and cannot and does not desire to do God’s will.
