Studies on Strong Doctrine

CHAPTER TEN

THE TWO NATURES IN THE CHRISTIAN

1.         T          F          Christians have within them two diverse natures, and consequently, they are greatly confused by their own inward struggle.

2.         Failing to recognize the two-fold nature in Christians have given rise to the following heresies:

A.        Falling from ____________.

B.        Works for ____________.

C.        Fatalistic view of ____________.

3.         The five statements that are typically true of the two natures in the child of God:

A.        There are two ____________ of ____________.

B.        ____________.

C.        These two shall be ____________.

D.        The one shall be ____________ than the other.

E.        The ____________ shall serve the ____________.

4.         The ____________ ____________ is ruled by the law of God, while the ____________ ____________ are ruled by the law of sin.

5.         T          F          The fleshly nature derives its existence from Adam, and consequently is of the earth, earthy. The spiritual nature derives its existence through the new birth from the second Adam—the Lord Jesus Christ.

6.         T          F          Because only one of them can be the ruling power in the believer, there will be a constant antagonism between the Spirit and the flesh, so long as they occupy the same temple of clay.

7.         T          F          And in this spiritual battle that is carried on in the Christian, it is the renewed human spirit, energized by the indwelling Spirit of God, that is so contrary to the flesh, and which is its antagonist in this warfare.

8.         T          F          The old nature must be subjugated completely to the new nature. Any other recourse will lead to an enforced judicial death for the believer lest his spiritual nature be defiled with sin.

9.         T          F          Christians are left on earth to struggle with sin for a time by way of testing our love for the Lord.

10.       This life is the testing time; it is the testing time for ____________, and subsequently for the saved a testing time for ____________ and ____________.

11.       T          F          Death is the separation of the two natures, for death is the severing of the body from the soul and spirit. (p. 326)

12.       Over‑dependence upon the strength of the flesh is called ____________.

13.       T          F          The Christian’s spiritual nature is potentially more powerful, but in actuality it is so only if he realizes the strength of his evil nature of the flesh, and casts himself upon the Lord for strength to overcome the flesh. (p. 328)

14.       T          F          Which ever of our two natures we feed the best will be the stronger and will prevail over the other. It lies in the power of the Christian to give victory to his spiritual nature if he uses the appointed means and thereby feeds his new nature. (p. 329)

15.       How then may we feed our spiritual nature so as to insure that it will be victor over the carnal?

A.        By reading ____________ ____________.

B.        By hearing the ____________ and ____________ of the Word.

C.        By doing ____________ ____________.

D.        By ____________ in the ____________.

E.        By ____________.

16.       The order of things often followed in the Bible is, first that which is ____________, then that which is ____________.

17.       T          F          The flesh, even under the domination of the spiritual nature, cannot be used to glorify God.

18.       T          F          At best feelings are unreliable, and at worst they can be absolutely devilish.
